Service questions

Helpful answers before you call.

Does every generator connection require a panel upgrade?

No. E.S.H. looks at the generator, selected loads, panel arrangement, available capacity, and connection equipment before recommending panel work.

What should I send before calling about a generator connection?

Send the generator make and model if known, plug or output information, photos of the main panel and service equipment, the main breaker rating, and a list of the loads you want available during an outage.

Can I connect a portable generator directly to home wiring?

A generator must not be connected in a way that can energize utility lines or bypass required safety equipment. Have a licensed electrician assess and install an appropriate connection for the property and equipment.
